Middle Road School is a child centered Elementary School (Grades 1-4) which offers a balanced academic curriculum and a number of varied social learning activities for our students. The district–wide comprehensive curriculum is continually being aligned to the New Jersey Department of Education Core Curriculum Content Standards.
The basic academic curriculum includes: Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health, Physical Education, Art, Spanish, Vocal/Instrumental Music, Computer Science, and Library Skills. Qualified students also receive services in our Resource Center, Basic Skills, Adaptive Physical Education, and Enrichment Programs. Our school library, computer room, and all classrooms have internet access. Character Education themes are interwoven into the curriculum areas throughout the entire school year.
Our 4th grade students can join the band, as well as the Safety Patrol. Also, 4th graders can try out to become peer mediators as part of our School Conflict Resolution Program. Students in grades 3 and 4 can participate in our Make-A-Difference Club, a service-learning program.
Our dedicated staff takes pride in addressing a wide variety of students’ needs, so that each child has the opportunity to learn in a positive and safe environment.
Continuous in-service training of our teachers keeps the staff abreast of the latest teaching methodology and strategies. We believe that high expectations promote high achievement. We strive to develop our students into confident learners who will exhibit the knowledge and the skills necessary to succeed in our ever-changing society.
During the school year, Middle Road students, staff, and parents have the opportunity to participate in a variety of special programs and activities. These varied activities include Back to School Night, Fire Safety Programs, Fall Pumpkin Patch, Halloween Family Bingo, October Parade of Characters, American Education Week Classroom Visitation Day, Thanksgiving Feast, Winter and Spring Concerts, Talent Show, Heritage Day, Read Across America Day, Science Fair, Field Day, Book Fair, Holiday Shop, Annual Library Read Aloud Day, Student Art Show, Family Fun Night, 100th Day of School Celebration, Valentine's Day Family Dance, PTO Movie Nights, , an outdoor multi-sensory Science Garden, Pennies for Patients, and monthly assembly programs.
Our students participate in B.A.B.E.S. (Gr. 2) Substance Abuse Awareness programs, and Campfire USA Character Education Programs-Caution Without Fear (Gr.4), C.A.P. Child Assault Prevention Program, and No More Bullies Program.
