Hazlet Township Public School District understands that families with children attending Sycamore Drive Early Childhood Learning Center (SD ECLC) and our Grades 1-4 schools may need extra time to travel to these schools for the 8:50am arrival time and 3:30pm dismissal.

2014-2015 SCHOOL NARRATIVE
Raritan Valley School is a child centered Elementary School (Grades 1-4) which offers a balanced academic curriculum and a number of varied social learning activities for our students. The district-wide comprehensive curriculum is aligned to the National Common Core State Standards.
Our fundamental academic curriculum includes: A Harassment Intimidation and Bullying curriculum, Reading, Language Arts, Inquiry based Mathematics and Science programs, Social Studies, Health, Physical Education, Art, Spanish, Vocal/Instrumental Music and Technology. Qualified students also receive services in our Targeted Basic Skills Reading Program, our Enrichment Program and our Resource Centers. Raritan Valley School is equipped for 21st century learning with wireless internet capability throughout the school with updated increased bandwidth. Every classroom has a document camera and a smartboard with webcam. We offer our students the opportunity of distance learning through video networking in all of our classrooms. The school is equipped with two carts stocked with net book computers, two carts stocked with ipads and two newly stocked carts with Chrome books that will prepare the district with the necessary hardware for the upcoming PARCC assessments. We are proud to continue to utilize our Media Center and its computer station, new leveled reading books, and a built-in presentation projector.
During the school year, Raritan Valley School has a variety of activities that are offered to our students and parents which add to the education process. Those that have taken place this past year are First Grade Orientation for all new incoming grade one students, Back to School Night which gives an opportunity to all parents to meet our staff, Class Visitation Day which occurs during American Education Week, Week of Respect and Anti School Violence Awareness Week, and Transitioning Day, which allows the students to meet their next year teachers before summer recess begins. We also have Fall and Spring Beautification Day, two Spelling Bees, Parent/Student Activity Night, Halloween Parade, Holiday Shop, Winter and Spring Concerts, Supply Closet, Book Fair, Science Fair, Ladies’ Night, Grandparents’ Day, Mothers’ Day Plant Sale, Dessert With Dad, Field Day, Art Show and two Family Bingo Nights. Each month, students are awarded Character Trait Awards by their teachers for making good decisions and demonstrating positive character traits. In addition to our character education program, Raritan Valley is a Bucket Filling School. Our fourth graders compete in an annual spelling bee that begins in our school and ultimately may give them the opportunity to compete at a national level. All of our students are challenged to increase their independent reading time by completing their weekly required reading time logs and are awarded monthly for accomplishing this goal.
At Raritan Valley School, our devoted teaching staff is committed as educators to implement our district’s initiatives. Differentiated instruction, incorporation of technology into the education process, data driven instruction, cross curricular instruction and a commitment to becoming lifelong learners through our very own Professional Development Academy, are all part of our everyday culture. It is our goal to give our students the necessary skills to be successful in the changing world we live in. We are proud to say that we are a member of a school district that has achieved accreditation by the Middle States Association.
