What is Targeted Reading?

Program Outline:

Phonemic Awareness

Sound Study and Word Work

Guided Reading: including picture walk, strategy instruction, independent reading

Writing and student evaluation of progress for the day

1 period daily for 10 weeks

Intense reading instruction: decoding and comprehension skills for 10 weeks

Small group: 4 students:1 teacher

Students are evaluated using the Scholastic Next Step Guided Reading Assessment, which will be used to determine eligibility.

Students will be evaluated after a 10 week cycle and will either be released or continue for another 10 week cycle

Homework: Please check book sack and folder daily. There will be reading homework and sight word practice Monday-Thursday.
