What is a School Counseling Program?

The counseling program at the elementary level is available to help students, parents, and teachers develop positive learning experiences. The program consists of a variety of services and activities, including individual and group counseling, parent and teacher consultation, information services, referral assistance to other agencies in the community, and student assessment. 

The school counselor is responsible for developing, scheduling, and evaluating program services and is assisted by the school's staff members. Primary services of the school counselor provide direct assistance to the students in the school. For this reason, a major portion of my day consists of responsive services that help students with their academic, personal, and social development. Parent and teacher consultations usually occur in the early morning before class or during after-school hours. 

Who is the School Counselor? 

Hello, 

My name is Mary Ridge and I am the school counselor at both Lillian Drive and Middle Road School. The 2021-2022 school year will be my second year working as a school counselor but, I am no stranger to the Hazlet School District. I am a former Middle Road Roadrunner, Hazlet Hurricane and Raritan Rocket! 

I am a licensed professional with training in human development, learning theory, counseling and consulting, career development, educational and related research, and other areas appropriate to the practice of counseling in schools. I have offices at both Lillian Drive and Middle Road, and appointments can be scheduled by calling 732-264-8401 EXT 5006, emailing mridge@hazlet.org or writing to your child's school. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about your child, or if you would just like to say hello!

Schedule: 

Lillian Drive: Mondays & Wednesdays plus every other Friday

Middle Road: Tuesday & Thursday plus every other Friday
