1st and 2nd Grade Grading

Grading for 1st and 2nd Grade:

Grading for music class is broken down into two categories:

50% Participation (Attitude, Effort, Use of Class time)

50% Activities (Games, Written Assessments, Instrument Playing, Performances, and Musicianship)

The Participation Grade will be broken into 2 categories:
Part - A (attitude and use of class time wisely) and Part - E (effort to contribute to class activities/discussions)

Both participation grades will be set as a check + at the beginning of each marking period, but can change throughout the marking period if necessary.

Some assignments will be graded using rubrics, some will be graded with a percentage, and some will be graded using a check system.  When using the check system, assignments are given a check +, check, or check -.

Below is the rubric that was developed by the music department.  This rubric can give you sense of what each letter grade on the report card means.
