Kindergarten FAQ

Milk: Milk orders can be placed for our daily snack. Milk money will be collected each month. Milk periods are 20 school days.  Please refer to the Sycamore E-Backpack for more information. 

Snack: Please include a healthy snack (yogurt, fruit, pretzels) and drink each day in your child's backpack separate from your child's lunch. Please try your best to label the snack for the day "snack".  Thank you!!

Lunch:  Lunch will be at 12:14pm every day. For the 2021-2022 school year, lunch will be FREE for all students, therefore, you will not need to add funds to your child's account. There are blank Lunch Forms that are to be kept in your child’s folder.  If your child is ordering lunch on a given day, please fill out the Lunch Form for that day with the lunch selection. That will let me know that I should order a lunch for your child. Lunch orders are placed first thing in the morning. There are several options for them to choose from each day, so it is very helpful for me to have your child’s lunch selection in writing. *Please clearly note each day what your child will be ordering for lunch.  Each student will be given an ordering form each week. Thank you, in advance, for your help!*

Homework: Homework packets will be sent home on Monday and are due back on Friday. Homework packets are a reflection of what we are working on in school each week. Please complete 1-2 pages per night in pencil, unless directed to color. In addition to weekly homework packets, please practice all sight words daily!

Absences: Parents/Guardians are responsible for notifying the school on or before the first day of a student's absence. Sycamore Drive ECLC has a voicemail system on which you may leave a message between the hours of 4:00p.m. and 8:50 a.m. regarding student absences and tardies. To report an absence call 732- 264-2180, listen to the menu and press 1 for the “Attendance Line and Nurse”. When leaving a message, please state your child’s name, teacher, reason for absence and the possible number of days your child will be absent. Please state requests for homework to be sent home with another student or if you will pick it up at 3:30 p.m. For tardy students, tell us the time the child will arrive to school. If a child is absent and we have not received a call, school personnel will attempt to call the parent/ guardian. If the parent/ guardian cannot be reached, an attempt will be made to confirm the child’s absence by contacting the emergency numbers you have provided. Please keep phone numbers updated. This procedure is to ensure each child’s safety.

Birthdays: Non-edible items can be distributed to classmates to celebrate birthday in school!! Examples include but are not limited to: Stickers, play-doh, bubbles, silly straws, pencils.

Dismissal: Students are dismissed as either: a bus student, a walker, Flex Time attendee, or an after-care attendee.  Please send me an email or put a note in your child's folder if your child will not be taking the bus home, if someone else will be picking up your child, or if your child will be leaving school early. You must qualify and register for Flex Time. You must register with Right At School for after-care.

Personal Belongings: Please label student belongings (backpack, lunch box, jackets, etc.) clearly with your child's First and Last name, in the event items are ever lost.

Extra Clothing: Please send a change of clothes in a plastic bag or ziploc, labeled with your child's name, in the event that there is a spill at snack or an accident.  Additionally, please send in a beach or regular towel for your child to use in the classroom and if we go outside, as well as an extra mask.
