A.        Professional Development Opportunities

 

1.         Workshops

 

  • Professional Organizations (including NJEA, NCTM, etc)

  • Accredited colleges and universities

  • State agencies (such as NJDOE, ETTC)

  • Other approved / registered providers

  • Publishers / Consultants for new text adoptions

  • In-house staff

  • Special Education inclusion workshops

  • Staff Development Days

  • Novice/Mentor Teacher Training Institute

  • Professional Development Academy Training Sessions

  • Webinars

Implementation:

Workshops count hour for hour as long as they are consistent with staff member’s PDP, teaching assignment and State standards.

 

2.         Formal Courses

  • As offered by accredited colleges, universities or other providers (both on and off site courses)

  • On-line studies as offered by approved providers

Implementation:

            Formal courses count hour for hour, providing they are consistent with staff member’s PDP.

            (One hour of college credit equals 15 hours of professional development)

 

3.         Articulation with Peers

Implementation:

  • Time as determined by the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Testing

  • Prior approval is needed

  • Documentation

  • Limit of 10 hrs / yr

 

4.         Mentoring*

  • Field experience

  • Student teachers / junior practicum

  • Alternate route teachers

  • Provisional teachers

Implementation:

  • Articulation with field experience students – limit 1 hr / wk with documented articulation

  • Serving as a cooperating teacher for student teacher – limit 1 hr / wk

  • Mentoring of provisional teachers – limit 1 hr / wk

  • Junior Practicum – 3 hrs. per semester

 

5.         Curriculum Writing

Implementation:

            Time as approved by the Board of Education

 

6.         Grant Writing

Implementation:

            Time as determined by the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Testing

 

7.         Serving on Professional Boards or Committees*

Implementation:

            Limit 10 hrs / yr

 

8.         Teaching a Course / Workshop for the Hazlet Staff and/or Hazlet Families

Implementation:

            Survey of course / workshop

            (presenters or teachers of courses or workshops shall accrue PD hours on the basis of two hours of             preparation time for every hour of delivery time)

 

9.         Independent Projects / Professional Study Groups

Implementation:

  • Time as determined by the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Testing

  • Prior approval is needed

  • Documentation

 

10.       Observations of Professionals

Implementation:

  • Time as determined by the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Testing

  • Prior approval is needed

  • Limit of 10 hrs / yr

 

*The maximum number of hours that can be accrued for these activities is 75 out of the 100 required hours.
